An average day at Mission Norman looks something like this: Volunteers arrive before the Mission opens, stock the food pantry, and do other various chores to get the mission ready for the day. Then they have a Bible study. When the mission opens to the public, some people show people in and help them fill out an application for assistance; some people counsel recipients; and some people help recipients fill a box of food for their family. Mission Norman workers will take turns taking a break to have lunch, which is provided by the mission and cooked by other volunteers. Later in the day, a food truck may come and volunteers will unload it and store the food. After that the Mission will close and volunteers will go home.
Jesus said in Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed.”
The less fortunate and the oppressed are people on Jesus’ heart. That is why Mission Norman volunteers work at the mission: they want to love people like Jesus loves them. Mission Norman offers them an excellent way to serve people.
If you are looking for a way to serve Jesus or your community, Mission Norman is a great place to do it. Whether you are a people person and like to converse with people or if you like to work on your own, there is a job for you.
