Why We Serve

Jesus Christ has touched every person that volunteers at Mission Norman in a personal and life changing way.

About 2,000 years ago, a man came to earth, claiming that He was GOD. This man lived a very good life, did many good things and taught many people. He taught them about love and GOD and life. He preformed miraculous deeds such as healing the sick with a word, giving sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and raising people from the dead. The people were amazed and followed Him everywhere.

There were some people, however, who were not so happy with this man. He challenged their way of living and their power. They decided to stop this man one way or another. They had Him arrested and told lies about Him. The governor tried to find a way to release Him because the governor knew that the man was innocent. The governor could not find a way, so although He was innocent, the governor condemned Him to death.

However, this is not the end of the story because three days later, the innocent man rose from the dead! He told them that He had been given all power and glory. He told us that the reason that He came to earth and the reason that He died was to take the punishment for our misdeeds. If someone did not pay the price for our misdeeds, we would have to pay the price ourselves by spending eternity in Hell.

Then He told us to go tell the world of His sacrifice and the freedom He offers us.

This is the reason that all our of our volunteers and workers serve, because they want to tell and show the world about the love and forgiveness that Jesus Christ offers us. Mission Norman volunteers do not understand how they can tell you about such love without living it as well.

Isaiah 58:10 says, “If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”

So our workers come and spend themselves on behalf of the hungry, the abandoned, the homeless, the hurting, and the unloved. The volunteers come and attempt to love in the way that Christ has loved them, in hope that these people too might find the same love of GOD.
