House Churches
At Mission Norman, we take church to the people, wherever they may be. We hold worship services in apartment offices, take communion in living rooms, baptize in swimming pools and teach Bible studies under shade trees. Mission Norman churches meet across central Oklahoma every day of the week to pray, study the Bible and sing praise to God. But church doesn’t stop when the meeting is over. Our churches are like families. We eat together. We celebrate the holidays together. We tutor the children, care for the sick, encourage the lonely and share God’s Word with the lost. The need for these churches in central Oklahoma is great. Studies show that over 70 percent of the people in our area do not belong to a Christian church of any kind. In multi-housing communities (apartments, mobile homes, duplexes, etc.), less than 5 percent go to church. Many of these are physically unable to attend a traditional church, and countless others have grown up culturally cut-off from the good news of Jesus Christ. These people are living in spiritual darkness, and they have no way of finding hope without Jesus. That’s why it’s so important that we love the people of central Oklahoma enough to meet them where they are. Mission Norman’s pastors try to live the words of St. Paul, who wrote: “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us” (1 Thessalonians 2:8). Many lives have already been transformed by the hope of Jesus, but thousands of hurting people still live in our community without any knowledge of God’s love for them. “How can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14) If you would like to become involved with Mission Norman's house church ministry, email John-Mark Hart or call the Mission Norman Office at 321-8880.
